BEAUTY ROUTINE

MORNING

Katherine sticks to her beauty regime religiously but is always open to swapping out products to avoid falling into a skincare rut.

She has spoken openly about using small amounts of filler and Botox over the years but swears by a 'less is more' approach and prefers a natural regime over cosmetic surgery.

'I love creams so I apply whatever creams I love and am using at the time right after my shower,' she said.

'I do like to switch them up because the face gets used to a certain product or a certain line and then it's not as effective so you want to switch up regularly by using different kinds of creams.

'I do full body LED masks and I also have an LED mask that I use at night it's called a Deesse Pro [AUD$3,040],' she said (pictured using the mask)

'I use Lancôme at the moment and that's a brand I always go back to as I love it. I also try to use things that are more healthy and organic. We have a store in America called Wholefoods - it has all the organic products and foods and things like that - so I tend to use things from there too.'

For makeup, Katherine swears by a dark brown eye pencil, mascara, blush and a shimmer, followed by a natural lip for her every day look.

'I find the more you take care of your skin the better so you want to be really hydrated and definitely not use makeup that is drying,' Katherine said.

'I prefer more dewy makeups so Makeup Forever is really good on my skin and Laura Mercier is great, too.'

NIGHT

Katherine always cleanses first thing when she gets home and often follows with a scrub to get rid of dead skin cells.

'I often do masks as well followed by the creams – I layer on the creams,' she said.

'I use an eye cream, then a retinol to keep the cell turnover going, and a Vitamin C cream - Vitamin C creams are really good I love those.

'I then finish with a cream that gets rid of sun spots and then a hydration cream – all from Lancôme. I put on the five different creams in that order.'

When she's not travelling, Katherine uses an LED mask for 40 minutes every night.

'I do full body LED masks and I also have an LED mask that I use at night it's called a Deesse Pro [AUD$3,040],' she said.

'It's anti-ageing; it stimulates the collagen and gives you a glow and keeps your skin hydrated.'

DIET

Katherine keeps it simple with her diet and eats almost entirely clean other than the occasional treat.

'I did the Keto Diet for a while and I loved it but it's just hard to maintain. I felt so good on that though so that's a really good one if I want to be strict,' Katherine said.

'Generally I just follow the rule of thumb of eating lean meats, leafy green vegetables and pressed juices and cut right down on sugar and gluten.

'I try not to have gluten but sometimes when I go to Australia I do - there are lots of pastries,' she laughed. 'Normally I stay away from bread but of course once in a while I will have a cookie or something.'

'Oh my God I can't even tell you how much I take! People think I am crazy, honestly,' she laughed.

'I think it's all about what works for you - sometimes vitamins don't work for you but I feel so much better for it.'

She also loves IV vitamin drips when travelling to help her digest vitamins and uses natural herbs for an energy boost.

EXERCISE

A lover of all things fitness, Katherine as been an avid competitor in triathlons for the past five years - a hobby she credits for her incredible physique.

'For me It's mainly been triathlons for the past five years so lots of biking, running and swimming,' Katherine said. 'I've had coaches. too, so whatever schedule they give me I will train for and do the Iron Man and Half Iron Man races,' she said.

'Our schedule has been so busy this year we haven't really trained but usually we race every year. I do a lot of gym work and strengthening work and I love running too so I sometimes just get out – you can run anywhere!

'I always make sure I exercise five days a week at least.'

What is Katherine Kelly Lang's jet lag cure?

'If I can have time to sleep and rest I will get over it fast but you also need to get on the time schedule of where you are going as soon as you get there,' Katherine said.

'Sometimes I do have to force myself to stay up until it is night there to get over it, otherwise you are upside down the whole time.

The secret? Intense exercise.

'Exercise really helps me - the minute we land we go for a five mile (eight kilometre) run sometimes,' Katherine said.

'One time we landed in Sydney after a long flight and we did a 100 mile (160 kilometre) bike ride and we had no jet lag that whole week - none whatsoever.

'If I don't do that I do suffer the jet lag more.'

MANAGING A TIGHT SCHEDULE

Katherine says that staying busy is the secret to staying 'young' - and she certainly manages to do that.

I will sometimes study while I am driving to work which is probably dangerous but I've got to learn my lines!

'Most days I work at Bold and the Beautiful so I get up early and my honey [boyfriend Dominique Zoida] wakes me up every morning with a coffee and scrambled eggs or oatmeal in bed,' Katherine said.

'Then I get in the shower and throw on jeans and a T-shirt and then I go to work where they do my hair and makeup, we meet the director and do the blocking and rehearse with the actors and then go to take.'

Lately Katherine has been doing as many as 10 shows a week so she turns up, 'knocks them out' and then goes home to study lines for the following days.

'I'm not good if I don't sleep though so I manage to get at least seven hours – if I get less than seven hours I am horrible,' she joked.

'There are weeks where I am working a lot like this so it's harder but when I am doing those heavy weeks I work then go home and sleep - I try to study throughout the day on breaks for the next day. I will also sometimes study while I am driving to work which is probably dangerous but I've got to learn my lines.

'I just try to manage – I know I am terrible with less than seven hours and eight is my preference. I have no idea how people can survive on four hours, that's crazy to me.'

'This is when I will travel for TVSN or I go and work in Italy or do different press and publicity in Italy. Either we are here or in Italy on most of our dark weeks,' she said.

'I don't stop, ever. But in the summer we do have four weeks off so that's good downtime and I have three weeks off over Christmas.'

FASHION AND STYLE

Her new line of exclusive Kaftans for TVSN is one of many fashion ventures Katherine has entered into over the years, with the star also selling a line of kaftans on her online boutique

'My mum's been in fashion her whole life and has had many stores and she still has a store that she's had for 30 years. She still does all her own shopping and I've learned a lot from her through the years,' Katherine said.

'I met a friend in Australia – Toni Moon is my design partner – so we talked about doing something together for a couple of years and I finally came up with the idea of doing kaftans because I've always loved that style and that free-flowing look.

'I just thought that would be best to do for a store so we started with one online seven years ago and then we started on TVSN and did a whole other launch of kaftans.

'It's really my style of clothing, too. Of course I can't always dress like that because there's a lot of designers who dress me with their clothes as well so that's always fun and exciting and different for red carpets but what I feel most like myself in is the kaftan and jeans and T-shirts.'

THOUGHTS ON THE PRESSURE TO 'LOOK YOUNG' FOREVER

'You don't need to have the pressure of looking young forever (even though we all want to) because everyone is going to age in different ways and you have to accept that,' Katherine said.

'We try and do as much as we can to look as good as we can for as long as we can and I think health has a really big role to play in that and how you take care of yourself.

'Your genes play a role, I am lucky enough to have a beautiful mama and my dad was so handsome and healthy, but it's also your mindset.

'You have to stay young inside and you have to stay busy and still be creative and get out there and do things - it's all about how you feel.'
