One of the (many) things that has made James Taylor such an icon is his ability to use music to evoke the feeling of being on a quiet, country road, surrounded by the whistling of the trees and the chirping of birds. It's a feeling (at least in our opinion) of complete relaxation.
Now, the Chapel Hill, North Carolina home that James grew up in—and that inspired much of his music—is up for auction. Set on 24 acres, the idyllic yet retro-modern home is the picture of rustic relaxation.
In a press release, Sarah Sonke, the president of AuctionFirst, says of the home:
"It was a remarkable environment to nurture the creative minds of James Taylor and his siblings. Isaac and Trudy Taylor moved the family there in 1952 and remained for 22 years. By all accounts, Trudy Taylor put a lot of work into creating an environment that would enrich the lives of her children. This home still tells much of the singer's story, right down to the two-bedroom guest house where James used to hang out with his four siblings and listen to music. His initials are still carved into the deck."
Bids for the home are due by 3 p.m. on June 29th. The home has not been on the market for over 40 years; currently the "list price" of $1.5 million represents the tax value established by the county six years ago. "What is the property valued at now? That's the big question and hence the auction," says Sarah. "No one knows—the marketplace will determine that at auction."
